SEO Skills for Keyword Research and Rankings

SEO skills cover the work of making a page findable and worth finding. That breaks into six areas: technical SEO, which asks whether search engines can fetch and understand the pages at all; on-page SEO, covering titles, headings, and links between pages; content quality, or whether the page satisfies the query a person typed; links, meaning who points at you and how you point at yourself; local SEO for 'near me' and city-qualified queries; and measurement, which is what Search actually crawled, ranked, and sent you. Use the ranked list by starting with the sub-topic that matches your current bottleneck, not the one that sounds most advanced. If crawlers cannot reach the page, technical skills come first. If they can, move to on-page and content. Read each skill's description to confirm it targets your sub-topic before loading it.

SEO is making a page findable and worth finding: crawlers must reach it, the page must match the query, other sites must vouch for it, and you measure what Google actually did.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Which SEO sub-topic should I start with?
Start with technical SEO if you are unsure whether search engines can fetch and understand your pages at all. Once crawling and indexing are handled, on-page signals and content quality are the next levers. Links, local SEO, and measurement matter more once the page itself is reachable and relevant.
How is this list ordered?
The list is ranked by observed search demand, with direct matches to the topic placed first. A cap on any single publisher keeps one source from filling the page. Read down the list until a skill's description matches the sub-topic you are working on.
Can an SEO skill tell me what Google actually did with my site?
Measurement skills focus on what Search actually crawled, ranked, and sent you. That is a reporting and diagnosis job, separate from changing titles, headings, or links. Pair a measurement skill with the sub-topic you are trying to improve so you can see whether the change moved anything.
Do I need local SEO skills if I do not run a storefront?
Local SEO skills target being found for 'near me' and city-qualified queries. If your pages never compete for those queries, skip this sub-topic and spend the slot on technical, on-page, or content work instead. The ranked list is a menu, not a checklist.

How to install an Agent Skill

Start with the first skill on this page. Claude Code reads a SKILL.md once it is in the skills directory:

  • Claude Code — copy the SKILL.md for seo-audit into ~/.claude/skills/seo-audit/ for yourself, or .claude/skills/seo-audit/ to share it with a project.

  • Or download seo-audit from its source and place that SKILL.md in the directory above.
