Agent Skills for Data Engineers

Data engineering skills cover the work of moving data so someone else can use it. That spans six areas: ingest, which gets data out of the systems that produce it; storage, which decides where it lives and in a shape later jobs can read; transform, which cleans, joins, and models it into something analytical; orchestrate, which controls when jobs run, in what order, and what happens on failure; quality, which tells you a table is wrong before a dashboard does; and serving, which gets trusted data to the app, the dashboard, or the model. Use the ranked list by finding the sub-topic you are actually stuck on, then reading the skills listed under it. Pick the one whose described behavior matches your pipeline stage, and treat the rest as fallbacks rather than alternatives to stack.

    google-cloud-storage-basics

    Official

    >- Stores, retrieves, and manages data as objects in Cloud Storage (Google Cloud Storage, or GCS) buckets. Use when you need to interact with Cloud Storage — create or configure buckets, upload, download, stream, or transfer data, organize objects with folders, generate signed URLs, control access (IAM, ACLs, public access prevention), set storage classes and tiering (Standard, Nearline, Coldline, Archive), manage cost and lifecycle, protect data (versioning, encryption/CMEK, retention and Bucket Lock, object holds, soft delete), host static websites, trigger Pub/Sub notifications on object changes, mount buckets as a file system (gcsfuse), or optimize storage performance at any scale. Covers the gcloud storage / gsutil CLI, JSON and XML APIs, client libraries, Terraform, and Cloud Storage MCP servers. Don't use for block storage (Persistent Disk), data warehousing/analytics (BigQuery), or databases (Cloud SQL, Spanner, Bigtable, Firestore).

    google-cloud-storage-bucket-architect

    Official

    >- Creates Cloud Storage (Google Cloud Storage, or GCS) buckets. Analyzes the workload (sensitive data, media hosting, ingestion, web hosting, archiving, backup, logging, analytics, AI/ML, or general-purpose), validates project-level security settings, and designs a secure-by-default, cost-effective configuration (location, storage class, uniform bucket-level access, public access prevention, soft delete, lifecycle) before creating it. Use whenever a user wants to create, make, set up, provision, or spin up a bucket, or needs object storage for an app, service, pipeline, or dataset — even a "simple" or "default" bucket, or when bucket creation is one step in a larger workflow. Outputs or executes the creation via gcloud, the JSON/REST API, Terraform, or SDK client libraries (C++, Java, Python, Go). Don't use for anything other than creating new buckets — for uploads, downloads, access changes, or reconfiguring existing buckets, use google-cloud-storage-basics.

    constraint-driven-development

    Notable

Establishes a project's quality bar as a written contract and stops agents quietly lowering it. Interviews the user on which dimensions matter, supplies sane default thresholds when they have no number in mind, records everything in CONSTRAINTS.md, and watches the diff for a weakened bar — new @ts-ignore or eslint-disable suppressions, skipped or deleted tests, assertions stripped out, unimplemented stubs, thresholds edited down. Use when no quality bar is written down, when the user says "set up constraints" or "define our standards", when the user wants dimensions they care about — accessibility, web performance, coverage — set up as enforced constraints, when an agent keeps silencing checks or skipping tests to get to green, when you need a coverage or performance threshold and don't know what number to pick, or when an agent writes more code than anyone will read.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How is this list ordered?
It is ranked by observed search demand, with direct matches for the topic placed first. No single publisher can take more than a capped share of the list.
Which sub-topic should I start with?
Start with the stage where your pipeline currently breaks: ingest if data is not leaving its source, storage if downstream jobs cannot read it, transform if the model is wrong, orchestrate if jobs run at the wrong time or fail silently, quality if bad tables reach dashboards, or serving if trusted data is not reaching the app or model.
Do these skills replace a full data platform?
No. They are individual SKILL.md packages an agent loads, each aimed at one part of the ingest, store, transform, orchestrate, quality, and serve path. You still own the platform and the decisions about how those stages connect.
Can I use more than one skill from this topic?
Yes, since the sub-topics are separate stages of the same flow. Pick one skill per stage you need to address, and avoid loading two skills that claim the same stage.

How to install an Agent Skill

Start with the first skill on this page. Claude Code reads a SKILL.md once it is in the skills directory:

  • Claude Code — copy the SKILL.md for airflow-dag-patterns into ~/.claude/skills/airflow-dag-patterns/ for yourself, or .claude/skills/airflow-dag-patterns/ to share it with a project.
  • From the registry — run npx skills add wshobson/agents@airflow-dag-patterns.
  • Or download airflow-dag-patterns from its source and place that SKILL.md in the directory above.

How to choose Check the source and the skill’s own instructions before you install. Official and Notable describe where a skill comes from.
